Could Events Get Any Weirder?
Just when you think things have gotten as bad or weird as they're going to get, things get crazier. Not being of the Catholic persuasion myself, who the Vatican conclave of cardinals pick as the new pontiff should mean absolutely nothing to me. Some would think that a non-Catholic has no business commenting on who is selected as the leader of the largest Christian faith in the world. I disagree. The Pope is an international as well as political leader who is quite influential in the affairs of the world. So, why in light of the huge scandal recently plaguing the Roman Catholic Church, and the hot button issues of abortion, celibacy, women's role in the church, gay marriage, would they pick this guy??? Called by vatican insiders as "God's Rottweiler" and a former member of the "Hitler Youth" and "Luftwaffer" (although he says he was forced to join) you have to wonder, wasn't there anyone else fit for the job? Boy, the world is nuts and getting nuttier!

Your logic actually baffles me. The Catholic Church has taught the same exact things for the last 2,000 years and has recently chosen a pope that will continue this way. If you look at various cultures and societies however, they have been swayed for the last 2,000 years by every strange humanistic thought and practice, all of which died out only to come back a few hundred years later and then die out again and then re-emerge. Yet they will claim that the church has to modernize and stay with the times. You only have to read the papers and watch the news to giggle at the stupidity of society and the cycles that they embrace. It is not the church my friend that is nuts it is society.

I think that a lot of modernization is in order. I believe that what we have witnessed, the current scandal in the church is precisely why it needs to be modernized. I do believe that you have a right to what you believe and I must defend that right. Personally, I don't really care if it modernizes or not. You see I'm a Non-believer in your religion and any other religion.I think that they're all full of hot air to be perfectly frank with you. I don't want your beliefs to infringe on me or my family's right not to believe. I want to enjoy the personal liberties afforded to me as a citizen of this country without being preached to or told what I can do with my life or my families lives. Peter, I have a very wonderful family and I have a great life. I respect your beliefs but don't share them with you. I never will. I believe that more harm has been done in the name of religion than any "Humanistic" idea, thought or practice. I look at 9/11 and believe that Fundamentalist religiosity is what caused that to happen. Good luck. And if your religion gives you peace, I'm very happy for you Peter. IF SOMETHING DOESN'T CHANGE FOR 2,000 YEARS...THIS MEANS THAT IT IS TRUTH? INTERESTING THEORY.
ACTUALLY, THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF CHA..CHA...CHANGES IN THE 'CHURCH' THROUGH THE YEARS.
THERE'S BEEN THE PERIODS OF KILLING, SEX
(THE CONSENSUAL STYLE AND, THE NOT SO CONSENSUAL, FREESTYLE VARIETY ), PLOTS ( EVEN SOME POISIONINGS), THEFT, WARS ( SOMETIMES FOR, SOMETIMES AGAINST), AND, IN SOME RECENT CASES, GIVING IT TO WEE ONES IN THE FUNDIMENT. BUT EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES AND FALLS VICTEM TO FADS.
OVERALL, THE CHURCH HAS BEEN CONSISTANT THOUGH THE AGES. THE PRACTICE OF PAGAN RITUALS, THE PLASTER STATUES, SILLY BUT WELL- TAILORED UNIFORMS (NOTICE THE UNCHANGING HEMLINES ),INSCENSE FUMES, SMOKE ( BLACK, WHITE, OR PERHAPS THE ZINFANDEL ?), LIMBO, ORIGINAL SIN, INDULGENCES AND, SPEAKING OF INDULGENCES... COLLECTING CASH FROM THE POOR...WHILE PROMISING THEM A SUPER 3RD-ROW-CENTER -ON -THE- AISLE AFTERLIFE.
STRUGGLE HERE ON EARTH AND PRAISE THE LORD, AND YOU TOO WILL LIVE POST-MORTEM LIKE A KING IN A PALACE WEARING HIGH STITCH-COUNT CLOTHING, EATING FRENCH FOOD, ( BUT NO MEAT ON FRIDAY ), WITH GUARDS IN MEDIEVIAL UNIFORMS PROTECTING YOU AND ALL THE OPULANCE AROUND YOU.
